If you watch the above movie: the same guy also shows how to do a processor upgrade - from 2x4 core 2.66GHz to 2圆 core 3.something GHz. Have just been too busy with work to properly read up on all the details and possible caveats. Note that after flashing the firmware, you can also install 1333 MHz RAM instead of your usual 1066 MHz (cheap at OCW Computing - I'd go for 6x4=24GB remember that installing 6 RAM sticks is better than installing 8, performance-wise). Problems, further links, and talk about the System Integrity Protection that should (or should not?) be disabled. If it doesn't (which would mean your wifi would die after flashing the firmware), you can always buy a supported wifi card, and proceed with the firmware upgrade. Halfway the page is a post by chaosmeister (me) describing how to figure out if your wifi card allows/supports flashing the firmware.
